This is a national pilot project to integrate management, research and dissemination of government archive material with a regional museum and is a realisation of government ambitions for the cultural heritage sector. The museum already has two distinctive buildings in Norwegian architectural history - the Storhamar barn designed by Sverre Fehn and the Hamardomen listed building designed by Lund + Slaatto. In autumn 2021 an open international architect competition was held for the new museum building. The Danish architectural office ALL won the competition with the project "Shelter".
