Since 2011, the DESY Zeuthen campus has been profiled as a globally visible center for astroparticle physics. DESY Zeuthen is involved in several international research projects in astroparticle physics. The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is a ground-based observatory for gamma-ray astronomy. With 64 telescopes spread across the northern and southern hemispheres, CTAO will be the most sensitive instrument for studying high-energy phenomena in the Universe. Work on building the observatory has just begun. DESY is responsible for the development and construction of the Medium-Sized Telescopes (MST) for CTAO.
